We're In the Pink!

Topsy Turvy has taken an unplanned hiatus from blogging lately, due to lots of work and having come down with a bit of "blogger's block" ... but we've recovered nicely and are feeling fine now.

Since winter is the prettiest time of year for some blooming flowers in Florida (at least until we have our first frost), I thought I would share some photos from my garden. Bougainvilleas look their best right now, and this one provides a beautiful view from our bathroom shower! After this bloom, we'll have to do some extensive pruning.

Roses also look better now than in the midst of the summer heat, and this is one of my favorite ever. It's a Pink Cluster Rose (Rosa pisocarpa) that I picked up at Publix, of all places, and it has bloomed profusely – non-stop since I planted it a few months ago. Behind the rose bush is a Brugmansia, or Angel's Trumpet, that is also looking nice.

A close-up of the Angel's Trumpet. The blooms are really large – now about 8-10" long – and hang downward. Reportedly the blooms can get up to 20" long! I love to watch the bees climb right in and disappear. It's a wonder that they are able to withstand the intense perfume of the flowers.

BeeeeaaUUUtiful images! How I long to see flowers today. We just got done blowing all the leaves off the lawn, putting away the patio furniture..and mulching all the flower beds to batten down the hatches for winter! ( it's 37 degrees out! )

Ivy Lane - thanks! Oooh, that sounds chilly. A real winter has its beauty too. (I know, it's easy for me to say that!)

Happy you are back blogging and love the images of angel flowers and bouganvilleas. I have just arrived back in europe and it is very far from pink here! xv

Its great to see flower pictures. We're supposed to get more snow tonight and I can't even grow your plants in my house(I've tried). Welcome back.

Glad you're back, too! I was at my mother's house for one last look round the gardens there. Some things are still blooming, but after this week with its cold temps, all will be gone.

Lovely photo of the Angel's trumpet.
They are one of my favorite. I have two in front of my home that I just adore.

Warmest,
Brooke

Thanks, Brooke ... they are pretty outrageous in the world of flowers, aren't they? I have found that mine needs tons of water. Maybe they do better with some shade??

I love your chair in the background too :)

Country French - thanks! Those chairs are one of my (many) "projects." They need new seats and backs and the metal finish needs to be de-rusted and painted!

OOOooooo! Beautiful blooms! I miss bouganvilleas from growing up in SoCal. It doesn't do as well with the frost we get up North. So pretty.

What a lovely garden you have.
I planted the same bouganvillea in our garden in Italy.

I dunno....your pink is WAY better than mine! Our bougies are not that colorful...and I am so craving an angels trumpet!

Thanks Katiedid, Scintilla and Tea or Wine.

Linda - this is its best time of year, but I do have another one that doesn't bloom very much. I don't think that one gets enough sun.
